With the Cultural Revolution
in China much of the spiritual aspects of Chinese Medicine were removed.
However, it is clear through the descriptions of the use of points
that the negative influence of spirits was one of the primary causes
of disease at one time. By the time Chinese Medicine arrived in the
west what little remained on the subject was lost inside of the concepts
western psychology.
In Tibetan Medicine this idea is still very much
intact and is most certainly considered a primary cause for disease.
The bodywork practitioner
does not address this cause of distress. It is simply not inside
the scope of our practice. On the other hand it is interesting to
explore
our own relationship with the spirits of nature especially in our
home and work place. Even if “nature spirits” are not inside
of our personal belief system we can establish a harmonious relationship
with the living things found in nature that we can see, to the benefit
of all. |
